Day 13: Be Selfish, it’s good for you!

Sometimes you can spend so long being someone else’s anchor that you lose sight of the shore and start to drown yourself

f6871f5e78555cb133e9932a9c6ebf86If you are a caring person it can be really easy to fall into the trap of looking after everyone else and not yourself. Is is such a problem? Well, it can be if you allow your resources to become too low. You won’t be in any fit state to look after others without caring for yourself first. To be honest, really it’s the first step of real self care.

It can be hard to put yourself first, especially if you’re not a huge fan of yourself, but practicing can help you to build that new type of relationship with yourself. It’s not selfish to put yourself first but sometimes it can feel like you’re not being kind or supportive of other people if you take some time out. If you keep practicing your assertiveness and trying to get your needs met, gradually you will find it gets easier and comes more naturally.

So for day 13 of Self Care September, why don’t you try and take some ‘you time’ and put yourself first.
